Secrets of Desire - L.K. Shaw

This is the 2nd installment of the Secrets Series.

I didn't read the other installments, and I have to say I didn't feel lost as to what was going on.

Connor Black is a dom who was abused in his childhood and had a very tough life. He's very hesitant getting close to people and though he's super attracted to Bridget, a sub who frequents his club, he admires her from afar and doesn't get too close.

Connor runs a private investigations business, and Bridget asks him for help with her son. Her son is a secret she's been keeping since forever, but finally tells Connor she had a son when she was a teenager and left him up for adoption. Though she still keeps in touch with the adoptive parents, it scares her to hear from her son asking for her help.

Connor tells Bridget not to worry and that he'll get to the bottom of what's going on with her son. So begins a lurid tale of intrigue as it turns out the adoptive parents died in a questionable car crash and the person in charge of Bridget's son is his uncle whom everyone thinks is abusing the boy.

It's an all out race to find out what really happened with the adoptive parents and if Bridget's son is in any danger, but everything gets complicated when Bridget and Connor can't seem to keep their hands off each other. Can Connor get through his issues and finally get a happy ending?

In The Warrior's Bed - Mary Wine, James Griffin

In The Warrior's Bed is the second installment of McJames Series and it doesn't disappoint. In this installment, we get Cullen McJames' story.

Cullen is Broderick's brother and second earl of Sterling. In the previous book, we meet him where he's all mischievous and such a flirt. Broderick hints at him that it's high time he wed and a good match for him would be Bronwyn McQuade, the daughter of their long time rival. The match would be good to finally calm down the wars and raids and bring peace among the clans.

And though everyone's heard stories about Bronwyn's temper, which keeps most suitors away, Cullen agrees and knows he must respond to his clan's wishes. But all that goes to hell when he meets a beautiful girl on the border to his lands.

The girl is a mystery and won't tell him her name, but Cullen is struck and won't stop until he gets her. But as luck would have it, the mysterious girl is none other than Bronwyn herself and before Cullen can start the wooing process, Bronwyn's father accuses Cullen of using his daughter and labels her as a whore.

Bronwyn's father has it set in his mind that his daughter will marry no one so that he won't have to give up a rich dowry of lands for her. But instead of driving Cullen away, this propels him more to take Bronwyn and clear his name by making her his wife.

With the help of friends, they steal Bronwyn and so begins the chase of love and the thrill of sex between Cullen and Bronwyn. Their chemistry is scorching hot and the story is full of intrigue and so many explosive events.

Can Cullen and Bronwyn make it together or will their long standing family feud get in the way of their love? And will her father stand by idly or will he take matters into his own hands and rid himself of a daughter he's never wanted just so can keep his lands?

In Bed With A Stranger - Mary Wine

I totally adored and loved this book! Amazing 10 stars!! And what happens to Lady Phillipa and Mary at the end??? OMG, Epic awesome ending! :)

Anne is the illegitimate daughter of the Earl and has to play maid to the Earl's real wife, Lady Phillipa and daughter, Mary, so that there won't be any discord in the Earl's home.

Lady Phillipa is cruel though, and doesn't miss an opportunity to be unbearable to her husband's leman and their illegitimate children - even though the Earl tells Phillipa he'll give up his leman and children if his wife agrees to give him a son. Phillipa refuses as she nearly died giving birth to Mary and won't ever go through another birth again.

So Phillipa tolerates her husband's leman and is the picture of tyranny until one day her husband marries his daughter, Mary by proxy, to his Scottish neighbor, Brodick McJames pledging a great dowry as well. Phillipa won't have this and refuses to let her spoiled daughter experience the horrors or child birth. So, instead of giving her daughter Mary, to a brute, she switches Mary with her husband's bastard daughter, Anne.

She instructs Anne that she's to go to Scotland and be with Brodick and return when she's with child. If Anne should refuse, Phillipa threatens to put out all her family from her home and accuse them of stealing and taking them to jail.

Anne agrees and feels horrible that she living a lie. Once she is with child, she's to return to her family and then Mary would switch places with her and go back to Scotland with the new babe in arms - thus avoiding giving birth.

Anne can't believe the far fetched scheme as she and Mary don't look anything alike, but she's forced into action by the devilish Phillipa who is taking advantage that her husband is out of town and she's in charge.

Anne tries her  damnedest to keep Brodick from consummating the marriage, but soon finds that she can't keep her eyes or hands off the gorgeous Scotsman. She doesn't make it through a week and soon is head over heels in lust with the Scot. But she feels terrible that she's lying to him and wonders what will be her fate when he finds out the truth though she's too busy at the moment exploring every inch of him.

But the truth will eventually come out. Will he hear her out or will he shut her away? Her heart anguishes to find the answer, though she figures a few more times in his bed won't hurt, before she tells the truth right?

Mr. Bossy - R.K. Lilley

Wow! I absolutely loved this book! It was a total smutty take on Pretty Woman from the stripper bar.  The insta-love was a bit over the top, but with all the dirty talking, crazy antics, I'll totally look past that! :)

~~~~~~~
Greta is a stripper at the local bar with a heart of gold. She's taken in her sister who's got 4 kids, each from a different father. Greta vows to take care of her sister and nephews and stripping is the way for now.
One night a gorgeous Russian, Kash, walks into the club and she finds herself breaking almost all the rules she's set up to protect herself. In minutes, she's got him eating out of her hand - er well actually something else. LOL
Kash is a powerful and successful man who doesn't take no for an answer. When he sees Greta he knows he wants her and he'll stop at nothing to have her. He has a proposition for her though, $15,000 upfront for Greta to join him for the weekend and go with him to his ex's wedding to make his ex wildly jealous. He'll also give her $15,000 when the weekend's done.
Thinking of her needful family, Greta agrees, partly for the money but more so for how Kash makes her feel. Pretty soon Greta's in over her head as Kash remakes her into the woman he wants with a full makeover and new outfits plus jewelry galore.
But before she can stop herself, Greta finds herself falling in love with Kash's filthy mouth and depraved ways she just can't say no to. What will she do if Kash's ex wants him back? What the heck did she get herself into?
Pretty Broken Girl: An Unconventional Love Story - Jeana E. Mann
Dakota, the daughter of the cook at the Seaforth mansion has set her sights too high in falling in love with the Seaforth's only son, Samuel. This is something Sam's parents won't stand for as Sam will inherit their vast empire and it's bad for appearances if he's married to the cook's daughter.
But Sam disavows his family's fortune and when turns 18 and is out of high school, he marries Dakota and everything seems to be a happily ever after. Except Dakota's life is super complicated as she's tackling a sick mother and a deadbeat brother who's always on the wrong side of the law.
Before she can embark on her HEA, Sam's father pays her off to leave his son alone by giving her money and not throwing her worthless brother in jail after he blackmails her with incriminating information. Dakota agrees to abide by the agreement and never see Sam again. She leaves Sam without saying a word, and ten years pass by full of hurt and revenge for both of them.
Now Sam has bought her company and is her new boss. It will take everything in her power to resist not only Sam's allure, but find a way out of the problems in her life that never stopped plaguing her. Will Dakota turn to Sam this time or will she run away again?
This read started out all right, but it got tedious fast with the should we - shouldn't we - I love you - I hate you. Ugh! I really wanted to like this book, but it was just too much back and forth at something that should have been so easy to talk through.  Plus, the title is really misleading. Dakota is nowhere near broken to me. I truly expected a BDSM read and this was nothing of the sort.
The Vow: A Loveswept Historical Medieval Romance - Juliana Garnett
Ceara is a rarity in medieval times, taking the helm of battle against the Normans after her father falls in battle. Successful in fending off a first attack against her home, she's not so lucky going against Luc Louvat, who ends up conquering more than her lands.
This read is mixed with a whole lot of history and political intrigue - which got a bit much in places, but the sprinkles of romance and Ceara's indomitable antics, along with her somewhat tamed wolf pet, made this a good read.
SPOILER ALERT!
With This Ring - Celeste Bradley
The cover for this book is utterly stunning and it's the only thing that kept me reading.
In the third installment of the Wicked Worthingtons, we see Elektra's story. From afar, the story is whimsical sounding - Elektra probably the only Worthington who cares about the state of the family - I mean what about  Calliope? She married well in the first book, but doesn't even send over not even an apple to help our her family SMH - and Elektra feels she must marry well to reinstate her family to their former glory.
To ensure this, she plans to kidnap the most eligible bachelor, put him in a compromising position and make him marry her. But her plans goes awry and it doesn't help matters that the Lord she kidnaps has been involved in a scandal that drove him from London and 10 years later he's finally back hoping to win his father's forgiveness and favor in his deathbed.
So, the story  was so-so, but  I found there was just too much concentrating on the  Worthingtons and not too much on Elektra and her story. The 3 stars are merely for the cover and 1.5 for the story. So ends my travels with the Wicked Worthingtons. The next book cover is super dull and I find the Worthington family just gets on my nerves.
And Then Comes Marriage - Celeste Bradley
The second o installment f the Wicked Worthington series really missed the mark for me. I truly enjoyed the first part, but everything unraveled in the second  book.
Cas and Pol are twins - though they are grown men they are irresponsible and only think about inventing well absolutely nothing worthwhile. They run around the brothels and spend money like there's no tomorrow, never caring after the wellbeing of their family. I'm not sure if the author meant this in an endearing way, but I found nothing endearing about this behavior whatsoever.
The twins are making their usual mayhem when a widow is struck by Pol's handsomeness. She cant get Mr. Worthington off her mind, not knowing he's a twin.
A complex but rather dull story ensues of a back and forth of should they - shouldn't they as it seems both men fall for her. But just when I thought it was going to be a menage book, everything falls apart as they all can't figure out who should be with who. Add in a pesky clause that the widow shouldn't do anything scandalous or she'll lose her fortune and it's all one big mess I couldn't be bothered with.
I really didnt care who stayed with who as I couldn't believe how irresponsible these idiots were. I was floored they got the widow to lose her fortune and then made her live with their parents because they are such losers they didn't have a home of their own. What a waste.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Calliope Worthington is a spinster as the oldest of the Worthington girls as she's in her thirties. Gone are her dreams of being introduced into society, much less getting married as she's resigned her life to taking care of her wild and rambunctious family and younger siblings.
But then one fateful night, a storm washes away a bridge her family is traveling on and they all descend upon what looks like a deserted and decrepit manor. While everyone struggles to get their bearings and dry their clothes, Calliope goes up the manor, exploring to her heart's content.
In her soaked nightgown, she spies a chest full of jewelry and she can't resist trying on the beautiful baubles. But it turns out the mansion isn't deserted, and it's Master, Sir Lawrence "Ren" Porter doesn't take kindly to thieves.
Ren bargains with Calliope and in exchange for her doing his dark and devious biddings, he'll give her one pearl a night from the necklace she stole. Once the pearls are all given back, Calliope will be released from his hold.
But even though Ren is a disfigured beast and hides away in his estate, Calliope sees him for more than anyone has ever done before. Slowly, she unravels his past and Ren opens up and lets her slip past his guarded walls.
As time passes and Ren entreats her night after night with new and deliciously seductive experiences, will Calliope leave his side? And what of the villagers? Will they welcome her and their reclusive master or do Ren and Calliope have an even bigger fight on their hands?
How to Date a Werewolf (Rylie Cruz #1) - Rose Pressey
OMG this book has been in my TO READ list since FOREVER! I can't believe I finally got around to it, and believe me, it should have been one I skipped.
Rylie is a werewolf matchmaker who owns and runs The Find a Mate company. She's had a great run matching people together, that is until she takes on Lily, a crazed werewolf.
Lily is furious her perfect date doesn't go as planned and goes to unthinkable levels to show how displeased she is with Rylie (picketing her business, and making T-shirts which denounce her business as well.)
Rylie, along with her roommate, Jennifer, brush off the threats Lily makes and instead choose to spend their time ogling their new gorgeous neighbor, Jack.
Both Jennifer and Jack are humans, and while Jennifer knows Rylie is a werewolf, Jack has no clue about the paranormal presence in New Orleans.
During the middle of the book we find out that in fact, the whole government knows about the supernaturals roaming around, but they choose to keep that knowledge on the down low.
Anyhoo, what follows are ridiculous events centering around Rylie dealing with Lily, and juggling her feelings with Jack - even though Rylie's convinced of a family curse that has doomed her into never finding true love.
Ugh! I think what upset me the most about this book was not that the situations were utterly ridiculous, but that I read through all that nonsense and there wasn't even any sexxy scenes to make up for the lost time. Ugh. Live and learn.
